Heartbreaking: Lavrov Declares Talks with Ukraine Impossible after Devastating Kursk Attack
Moscow, August 20 (IANS) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has categorically ruled out any negotiations with Ukraine following an assault on Russia’s border Kursk region, as announced by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
In an interview with local media, Lavrov emphasized that President Putin firmly declared the impossibility of talks in light of the recent attacks. "The president made it very clear that following the attacks on the Kursk region, any talks are impossible," Lavrov stated.
The Russian Foreign Minister also dismissed as "pure rumours" reports suggesting that the two countries had engaged in mediated communications via a third party, according to Xinhua news agency.
Moreover, Lavrov criticized the discussions held during a recent conference on Ukraine in Switzerland, indicating that they were unacceptable to Russia. He suggested that the conference aimed to promote Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s demands as a sort of ultimatum, which Russia finds objectionable.
This firm stance underscores the escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with diplomatic avenues narrowing significantly after the recent border incident.
