Pawan Khera Slams Government Over Shocking Train Accidents and Damning CAG Report on Railways
New Delhi, Aug 17: Congress Leader Pawan Khera Criticizes Union Government on Safety Issues
Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera has condemned the Union government over a recent train accident near Kanpur and expressed serious concerns about the Indian Railways’ safety standards. Speaking to IANS, Khera highlighted the alarming rise in train accidents despite assurances of protective systems. He questioned the efficacy and coverage of these safety systems, demanding transparency about their providers and implementation.
Khera also cited a recent CAG report that accused the government of misusing funds allocated for the Indian Railways, which he believes is a clear indicator of the administration’s neglect of passenger safety and facilities. "Safety and amenities in the Indian Railways are on a decline, causing increasing worry among passengers. The government’s lack of seriousness on this matter is apparent," he asserted.
Beyond railway issues, Khera commented on other national incidents, including the rape and murder of a junior woman doctor at a Kolkata medical college. He emphasized that the protests by hospital staff across the country are not just about vandalism but stem from deep concerns over their safety. "We fully support the medical fraternity. Ensuring the safety of medical professionals is crucial for them to perform their duties effectively," he said, urging the government to take strict action against those responsible for the vandalism.
Addressing concerns over the Udaipur stabbing incident involving two schoolboys, Khera mentioned his direct communication with the District Collector, noting that the situation is now under control. He called for peace and urged youth to refrain from such violent acts.
On the comparison of India with Bangladesh regarding minority treatment, Khera strongly opposed it, stating, "India’s democracy is built on strong foundations by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. These foundations are unshakeable."
Khera’s remarks underline the Congress party’s ongoing critique of the current government’s handling of critical national issues.
