Urgent Alert: Comprehensive Security Measures Intensified in Guwahati Amid Rising Concerns
Guwahati, August 15: Security forces across Assam have ramped up their presence following a bomb threat from the banned organization United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on Thursday. In Guwahati, police have cordoned off multiple roads, including sections of Zoo Road, the Ulubari-Rajgarh connecting road, and Narengi, where thorough checks are underway.
Intensive search operations are also being conducted in Narengi, near the Office of the Controller of Defence Accounts, with the bomb squad summoned for assistance. Similar efforts are ongoing in Lastgate and along the road to Gandhi Mandap.
The heightened security measures follow a statement from ULFA-I dispatched to various media outlets, claiming bombs had been planted in eight locations within the city, including Jorabat. In response, security forces have acted swiftly across Assam’s districts. Preliminary reports indicate that bomb-like objects, wrapped in polythene, have been recovered in Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, and Nagaon.
ULFA-I has asserted that these devices were planted as a form of protest against Independence Day celebrations, urging security forces to locate and defuse them.
This situation remains fluid, and further details are anticipated as the story develops.
