SHILLONG: The maintenance and repair of National Highway (NH-6) in East Jaintia Hills have been prioritized after multiple complaints about road conditions affecting travel and transport. On Monday, East Jaintia Hills MLA Santa Mary Shylla, along with the Deputy Commissioner, Police officials, Project Director of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and other key officials convened to address the issues.
Significant discussions centered around the worsening state of NH-6, particularly in areas like Lumshnong, Sonapur, Kuliang, and nearby regions. The deterioration has not only impeded vehicular movement but has also raised safety concerns. Consequently, NHAI has committed to deploying machinery, including JCBs and excavators, to expedite the road’s restoration.
The meeting highlighted the effort to repair collapsed culverts and potholes, which have been a persistent nuisance. NHAI officials assured that immediate and ongoing maintenance would be conducted to ensure safer and smoother travel.
Residents of the affected areas and frequent travelers along NH-6 have expressed relief over this resolution, hoping that the swift action by the authorities will alleviate the inconveniences faced. The collaborative approach between various administrative bodies and NHAI underscores the urgency and importance of maintaining this critical highway.
Overall, the initiative signifies a proactive measure to address infrastructural challenges, demonstrating a concerted effort to improve road conditions in East Jaintia Hills.
