Tragic Explosion Rocks Former MLA’s Home: Beloved Wife Fatally Injured
IMPHAL: Ex-MLA Yamthong Haokip’s Home Bombed, Wife Succumbs to Injuries
Former MLA Yamthong Haokip’s residence in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, was targeted in a bomb attack, leading to the tragic death of his wife. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Saikul region. The explosion occurred when a locally made IED, placed amidst waste at their home in Ekou Mulam, detonated. Haokip’s 59-year-old wife was severely injured and later died in the hospital despite medical efforts. Haokip and his daughter, who were also present during the explosion, escaped unharmed.
Local law enforcement from Saikul Police Station has launched a comprehensive investigation, though the perpetrators and their motives remain unidentified. According to a police officer, the bombing happened around 3 pm on Friday but was only reported early Saturday morning.
In a separate incident on the same day, clashes erupted between the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) and the Village Volunteer Force (VVF) in Molnoi, Tengoupal district. The gun battle resulted in three confirmed fatalities: two VVF members and one UKLF cadre, though some sources claim there were four deaths. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact death toll. Security forces have been dispatched to the area to control the situation.
Both incidents underscore the rising tension and instability within the region, prompting heightened security measures and further investigations.
