Devastating Inferno Strikes Cochin Special Economic Zone Godown, Unleashing Chaos and Destruction
A major fire erupted on Thursday evening in the godown of a company located on the first floor of the Cochin Special Economic Zone (CSEZ) campus in Kakkanad. The blaze began around 6 p.m., engulfing a storage area filled with sanitary napkins and packaging materials. The fire raged for over three hours before it was finally brought under control.
Responding promptly, five fire units from the Thrikkakara, Thripunithura, Pattimattom, Eloor, and Gandhi Nagar fire stations, along with approximately 30 firefighters, worked tirelessly to contain the inferno. The efforts successfully quelled the flames by 9:30 p.m., preventing the fire from spreading to other areas.
The company involved had not been in operation for some time, according to fire and rescue service sources. Preliminary assessments suggest that a short circuit might have triggered the fire. District Fire Officer K. Harikumar supervised the firefighting operation, ensuring a timely and coordinated effort.
This rapid intervention by the firefighters averted what could have been a more extensive disaster, highlighting the critical importance of quick and efficient emergency responses in averting potential threats in industrial zones.
