Urgent Alert: Devastating Landslide Slams Key Chakhabama-Zunheboto Road, Ignites Outrage Over Neglected Maintenance in Nagaland
A major landslide on the Chakhabama-Zunheboto road caused severe disruption Sunday, impacting a key route that connects Kohima, Pfutsero, and Zunheboto. The landslide occurred approximately 11 kilometers from Kohima, near the Dzüü bridge, blocking the road with falling rocks and loose soil.
By Monday, emergency crews cleared some of the debris, allowing traffic to pass through a narrow, one-way lane. Despite this, vehicles face a significant bottleneck as they navigate the obstructed path.
The delay in response has sparked frustration among commuters and local authorities, as no machinery or personnel from the maintenance firm were present at the site. This raises serious concerns about the firm’s maintenance obligations, especially given the road’s importance for regional connectivity.
The ongoing monsoon season heightens the risk of further landslides, prompting local officials to call for immediate stabilization efforts to prevent additional disruptions.
