Mumbai: Sanjay Dutt Loses Major Bollywood Project Over Visa Issues
Sanjay Dutt, a towering presence in Indian cinema, has encountered a significant career roadblock due to visa complications. The actor, who has been creating substantial buzz with his upcoming projects in both the northern and southern film industries, recently had his UK visa application rejected, leading to his removal from a high-profile movie.
Dutt was slated to star in "Son of Sardaar 2," the much-anticipated sequel to the 2012 hit "Son of Sardaar." The film, featuring Ajay Devgn in one of the lead roles, was gearing up for a major shoot in Scotland. However, reports from Mid-day confirm that Ravi Kishan will now replace Sanjay Dutt, with actress Mrunal Thakur also on board for the project.
The genesis of Dutt’s visa issues can be traced back to his 1993 arrest under TADA and the Arms Act for possessing illegal weapons linked to the 1993 Bombay bombings. Despite having traveled to the US since then, he has faced repeated failures in securing a UK visa. A source revealed, "Since Sanju’s visa was denied, Ajay’s team quickly replaced him with Ravi Kishan."
This setback has not only affected "Son of Sardaar 2" but also raised questions about Dutt’s participation in the upcoming "Housefull 5," starring Akshay Kumar and scheduled to commence filming in London this September. Nonetheless, producer Sajid Nadiadwala has mitigated the issue by planning to shoot Dutt’s portions in Mumbai, ensuring no delays for the film.
Earlier this year, in May, Sanjay Dutt had to withdraw from the eagerly awaited comedy "Welcome To The Jungle" owing to health concerns.
Sanjay Dutt’s legal woes began in April 1993 and culminated in a five-year prison sentence, which he completed in 2016 after multiple bail attempts. Despite overcoming his sentence, past legal troubles continue to cast a shadow over his career.
