Tragic Incident: Massive Truck Loaded with Gas Cylinders Crashes on NH-17 in Jogighopa, Assam
A truck carrying approximately 300 gas-filled cylinders collided with a highway divider on National Highway 17 in Assam’s Jogighopa. The truck, speeding at the time, lost control, resulting in a major crash. Both the truck driver and the handyman were injured in the accident. Jogighopa police arrived promptly to manage the chaotic scene and provide assistance.
The collision, which displaced the highway divider, underscores a recurring safety issue on National Highway 17. While no casualties were reported, the incident could have turned tragic if not for the timely intervention of authorities. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the crash and to address the safety concerns posed by the highway divider.
In response to the growing number of road accidents, the Union Ministry has introduced a pilot scheme in Chandigarh and Assam. This initiative, in collaboration with the National Health Authority (NHA), aims to provide cashless treatment for road accident victims. Under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), eligible victims receive trauma care packages worth up to Rs. 1.5 lakh for a period of seven days post-accident. This scheme is expected to significantly aid in the recovery of accident victims by covering their medical expenses.
In other news, the banned group Kamtapur Liberation Organisation has expelled a key member for anti-group activities.
