Heartbreaking Tragedy: UPSC Aspirant Succumbs to Depression in Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar
A 26-year-old student from Maharashtra’s Akola, preparing for the civil services exam in Delhi, tragically ended her life at her PG in Old Rajendra Nagar. In her poignant suicide note, she expressed her deep-seated frustration and struggles with depression. “I am sorry, Mummy Papa, I am fed up now,” she wrote, noting her unsuccessful battle against depression and pleading for peace.
She called on the government to address the issues of fraud in government exams, create more job opportunities for youth, and reduce the high rents for students living in PGs and hostels.
The police, who discovered her hanging on July 21, revealed that she had been in Delhi for the past four years. Friends of the deceased reported that she had been troubled by the rising hostel rents and was due to vacate her hostel on August 5.
While her note primarily mentioned her mental health struggles, her family believes depression triggered by harassment from a man might have played a role. The investigation is ongoing, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Harsha Vardhana.
This tragic incident is further intensified by the recent deaths of three IAS aspirants due to a waterlogged basement at Rau IAS Study Circle following heavy rains in Delhi, which led to the sealing of 30 coaching centre basements and issued notices to 200 institutes by the Delhi government.
In a desperate plea, the student also called for the legalization of euthanasia and asked her parents to donate her organs.
