India’s UDAN Scheme Sees Significant Expansion with 579 Routes and New Greenfield Airports

The UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) Scheme continues to expand its wings, operationalizing 579 routes that connect 85 airports, including 13 heliports and 2 water aerodromes, across the country. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murilidhar Mohol, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

Minister Mohol highlighted the central government’s ongoing efforts to boost regional connectivity and enhance the aviation infrastructure. He announced that the government has granted in-principle approval for the establishment of 21 new Greenfield airports nationwide in a bid to further improve air travel facilities. Notably, 12 of these airports have already been operationalized in the past decade.

The UDAN scheme, a flagship initiative that aims to make air travel affordable and widespread, has played a critical role in linking underserved regions with larger hubs, thus fostering economic growth, tourism, and employment opportunities. The expansion of routes and the establishment of new airports underline the government’s commitment to developing a robust civil aviation network that benefits the common citizen.

As the aviation sector continues to evolve, the implementation of new Greenfield airports and the enhancement of existing routes have poised India towards a future of elevated connectivity and accessibility. This strategic development marks a significant milestone in the journey towards creating a comprehensive and efficient air travel ecosystem in the country.

Key stakeholders and citizens alike can look forward to more seamless travel experiences and greater connectivity, further driving India’s socio-economic progress under the ambit of the UDAN scheme.
