Tragic Road Accident Claims Biker’s Life in South West Garo Hills
Tura, July 30: A tragic road accident in South West Garo Hills resulted in the death of a biker on Tuesday when he attempted to overtake a tempo on a curve and collided head-on with an oncoming dumper. The fatal collision led to the biker being crushed under the dumper’s wheels.
According to police reports, the incident took place at Chondonpara under Ampati Police Station (PS). The deceased, identified as Bilsrang R. Marak, 30, of Chondonpara village, was heading towards Garodoba on his motorcycle, registered ML-14 7809, when the unfortunate event occurred.
Upon receiving the distress call, officers and staff from Monabari promptly arrived at the accident scene on Chondonpara State Highway 06 (SH-06). "We found a male dead body with a crushed head lying on the roadside next to a motorcycle bearing registration number ML-14 7809. The deceased was later confirmed as Lt. Bilsrang R. Marak, 30, son of Shri Dalbison R. Momin of Chondonpara village," the police disclosed.
Additionally, another individual, Rohita Hajong, 34, sustained injuries during the incident. Hajong, a resident of Boiragipara under Ampati PS, was struck by the motorcycle after it collided with the dumper truck. She has been transferred to Belbari Primary Health Centre (PHC) for necessary medical care.
Efforts are underway to identify and locate the dumper truck involved in the collision. The police are collaborating with their counterparts in Assam to apprehend the vehicle and its driver.
The accident highlights the critical need for adherence to road safety measures and cautious driving to prevent such devastating incidents. Authorities urge motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially when overtaking on curves and narrow roads.
