Shock and Outrage: Kerala Man’s Arrest Over Alleged Maoist Links Sparks Controversy
The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Kerala Police apprehended Soman, 49, from Kalpetta, at the Shoranur railway station on Sunday, for alleged involvement in Maoist activities. Soman was transported to Ernakulam for further interrogation. Reportedly a ‘dalam commander’ in Wayanad, Soman is among the notable leaders sought for alleged Maoist activities, with around twelve cases against him, including charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He is alleged to have been part of a Maoist group involved in a shootout with police.
Soman’s arrest follows the earlier detention of Manoj from Thrissur, who was charged with having connections to a banned Maoist outfit active in the Wayanad forests. Information obtained from Manoj is said to have aided the ATS in locating and arresting Soman, who was known for his extensive travel.
