Tragic Death of 16-Year-Old Student Following Brutal Mob Lynching in Assam
BARPETA, ASSAM – In a heartbreaking incident, 16-year-old Iyasin Ali, a class 9 student, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night at Fakharuddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital. His death is the tragic culmination of a brutal mob lynching that occurred a week earlier in Abadi village, Bongaigaon district.
The violent episode began on July 21, following a dispute over a goat belonging to Iyasin’s father, Gazir Ali, which had wandered into a neighboring farm. Initially, what started as an argument between Gazir Ali and farm owner Alam Ali seemed to have been resolved amicably. However, tensions flared up later in the evening.
While Iyasin was en route to his tuition class, he was ambushed by Alam Ali and his cohorts—Zakir Falu, Rajab Ali, Isaw Ali, among others, totaling 10-12 individuals. The confrontation escalated into a vicious assault, inflicting serious injuries on Iyasin and seven of his family members who tried to defend him.
Initially treated at a local hospital, Iyasin was later transferred to Fakharuddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Barpeta due to the severity of his injuries. Despite intensive medical efforts, Iyasin passed away on July 28.
The incident has cast a shadow over the close-knit community, leaving residents in deep sorrow. Gazir Ali and local inhabitants are calling for a comprehensive investigation and stringent actions against the perpetrators of this heinous act.
Iyasin’s tragic death underscores the dire need for addressing mob violence and ensuring justice for the victims. The community’s demands for accountability and justice now lie in the hands of law enforcement, as they seek to prevent such devastating incidents from recurring.
