Tragic Impact: Five Injured in Devastating Israeli Airstrikes on Lebanon
Israeli Airstrikes Wound Five Civilians in Southern Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions
Shillong, July 28: In the early hours of Sunday, five civilians, including children, were injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon. Lebanese military sources, speaking anonymously to Xinhua, reported that an Israeli warplane launched four air-to-ground missiles on the outskirts of Burj al-Shemali municipality, resulting in injuries and damage to multiple homes. The wounded were transported to a hospital in Tyre by the civil defense and Lebanese Red Cross.
Further details from the sources revealed that Israeli drones and warplanes conducted six raids at dawn, striking five towns and villages in eastern and southern Lebanon. The Israeli military confirmed on Sunday that it had carried out overnight airstrikes on seven locations in Lebanon after a missile, allegedly fired from Lebanon, killed at least 12 children and teens in the occupied Golan Heights.
The airstrikes targeted strategic Hezbollah locations, including weapon caches and infrastructure in Chabriha, Burj al-Shemali, Beqaa, Kfarkela, Rab El Thalathine, Khiam, and Tayr Harfa. Hezbollah, however, denied any involvement in the Golan Heights attack, asserting they had “absolutely nothing to do with the incident.”
In response to the escalating situation, the United Nations called for restraint from both sides. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, and Aroldo Lazaro, head of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, issued a joint statement urging for an end to the intense exchange of fire to prevent a broader conflict.
The heightened tensions and subsequent actions underline the fragile stability in the region, with significant implications for both Lebanese and Israeli civilians. The international community watches closely, concerned about the potential for further escalation and its consequences. (IANS)
