Manipur Conflict: Kuki Students’ Organization Passionately Defends Assam Rifles Amidst COCOMI’s Contentious Withdrawal Demand
The Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO) has issued a strong rebuttal to a recent memorandum by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), which calls for the withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur.
The KSO labeled COCOMI’s claims of bias and inefficacy against Assam Rifles as “fundamentally flawed” and lacking evidence. COCOMI’s memorandum was based on former Border Security Force ADG PK Mishra’s statement alleging a “close link” between Assam Rifles and Kuki militants. The KSO dismissed this as speculative, arguing it overlooks Assam Rifles’ mandate for neutrality and community safety in Manipur.
According to the KSO, accusations that Assam Rifles failed to act against Kuki militants are unfounded. They cited numerous reports showing that Central forces, including Assam Rifles, have been active in curbing violence and restoring peace. During recent floods in Imphal, Assam Rifles played a crucial role in rescue operations, providing shelter and food, thereby preventing higher casualties.
The KSO also rejected COCOMI’s social media evidence as baseless. They clarified that incidents in Dolaithabi were caused by Valley Based Insurgency Groups (VBIGs) and not the Kuki community. Additionally, videos presented by COCOMI were identified as being from Myanmar, unrelated to Manipur’s current situation. They also countered claims about Meitei militants using Assam Rifles’ vehicles for attacks.
Furthermore, a video cited by COCOMI depicting a Kuki National Front (KNF) camp was a routine inspection, not a war zone as portrayed.
The KSO concluded by urging the Central government to take action against COCOMI for making unsubstantiated allegations against Assam Rifles and spreading false information.
