Telangana Budget 2024: Disappointment & Dismay, Says Kishan Reddy
BJP’s Kishan Reddy Criticizes Telangana Congress Government’s First Budget
G. Kishan Reddy, the Telangana BJP president and Union Minister for Coal and Mines, has sharply criticized the Congress Government’s maiden budget, calling it "mere jugglery of figures" that offers little to cheer about. In a statement released on Thursday, Reddy accused the government of failing to honor its promise of six guarantees.
Reddy highlighted that there were no allocations for the annual financial assistance under the Rythu Bharosa scheme and no mention of the Aasara pensions. He pointed out that the allocations for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) had been substantially reduced. While the Minority Welfare Department saw a 30% hike in its budget, the Education sector received only a 7% increase.
Furthermore, Reddy noted that the government appears to be continuing the previous regime’s practice of accumulating debt, mentioning the recent acquisition of more than ₹17,000 crore in loans. He emphasized that, in this regard, both the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) parties are similar in their approach.
Reddy’s critical remarks come amid rising political tensions as parties gear up for upcoming elections, with the budget being a focal point of contention.
