Central Government Unveils ₹48 Lakh Crore Public Welfare Budget for 2024-25
Agartala, 24th July 2024: The central government has announced its public welfare budget for the financial year 2024-25, with a total allocation of approximately ₹48 lakh crore. MP Biplab Kumar Deb thanked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their efforts in preparing the budget, which marks an 18.2 percent increase in capital expenditure from the previous year.
Deb highlighted the substantial financial progress achieved since Modi took office in 2014, emphasizing that higher capital expenditure will bolster government operations and enhance national infrastructure. The budget ensures over ₹4.82 lakh crore will be distributed to all states, focusing on public welfare, employment, and skill development for 4.1 crore youth over five years.
Key initiatives include providing internship opportunities for 1 crore youth in the top 500 organizations and allocating ₹1.48 lakh crore for education and skills development. The budget also extends the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, offering free rations to the poor for another five years, and commits to women’s empowerment with a 33 percent reservation in government jobs.
Deb lauded India’s achievements under Modi, noting the nation’s status as the world’s leading milk producer and the second-largest producer of rice and wheat. He also criticized the previous Congress-led government for neglecting youth and regional interests, contrasting Modi’s 90-day presence in the North Eastern region to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s absence from Tripura. Deb predicted that the BJP will retain power until 2047, confidently forecasting a return to office with over 400 seats.
This budget, according to Deb, underscores the government’s dedication to youth, public welfare, and national progress, setting a strong foundation for the future of India.
