Tragic Incident in Tinsukia: Kundil River Claims Lives of 2 Teens, 2 Still Missing
In a tragic incident in Sadiya, in Assam’s Tinsukia district, four teenage students were swept away by the strong currents of the Kundil river today. The incident took place at Paglam village where the students went to bathe after their classes. Villagers managed to recover the bodies of Amrit Chetry and Bhaskar Bhattarai, both 15 years old, but the search continues for the two other missing students, Vivek Chetry and Ram Chetry, also 15 years old.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is actively conducting search operations. A friend of the deceased recounted that a group of six—Rupesh, Bhaskar, Amrit, Vivek, Ram, and himself—left around 1 PM for an outing. Initially, they planned to party nearby, but Ram led them to a more secluded area in the jungle where they had lunch. Four of them decided to bathe in the Kundil river after lunch, while the friend and Rupesh stayed back to eat fruits.
He added that the river’s current was not strong initially. However, after a brief walk, they returned to find their friends missing. A frantic search ensued for several hours, and the friend eventually informed his mother around 4 PM, who then called for help. Local rescue efforts led to the recovery of two bodies, while the search for the remaining two continues.
The friend of the deceased shared, “We left around 1 PM in a group of six—Rupesh, Bhaskar, myself, Vivek, Ram, and Amrit. Initially, we planned to party nearby, but Ram took us to a secluded jungle area where we had lunch. Afterward, they decided to bathe in the Kundil river while Rupesh and I stayed back. When we returned after eating fruits, we couldn’t find our friends. We searched for them for a long time before informing my mother around 4 PM, who then called for help.”
This heartbreaking incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village.
