Union Budget Triumph: BJP’s Strategic Mastery Post-Lok Sabha Polls Inspires Youth and Strengthens Coalition Politics

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s 62-page speech on the union budget underscored the BJP’s ability to quickly adapt to coalition politics and learn from previous electoral setbacks. The focus on youth employment and targeted assistance to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar demonstrates the party’s strategy to address unemployment, an issue that adversely affected its voter base during the general elections. Despite appearing to borrow from the Congress’s manifesto, the Modi government aims to reclaim the youth demographic, particularly after the NEET paper leak controversy.

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya highlighted the budget’s emphasis on job creation for the youth. The budget offers substantial financial support to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, pivotal states for BJP’s coalition partners Janata Dal (United) and Telugu Desam Party. Opponents labeled it as an “NDA jodo budget,” yet the allocations have pleased allies like JD(U) and TDP, resolving doubts about Modi’s coalition governance abilities and solidifying the NDA front.

JD(U) leaders lauded the budget’s generous allocations for Bihar, including Rs 11,500 crore for various state projects and flood mitigation efforts. TDP representatives expressed satisfaction with a Rs 15,000 crore allocation for rebuilding Amravati and other regional development projects. The budget has fortified the NDA, dispelling any notion that JD(U) and TDP might abandon the alliance should their demands go unmet.

In sum, Sitharaman’s budget has not only aimed to solve pressing unemployment issues but also reinforced BJP’s coalition by catering to critical allies, ensuring a cohesive front heading into future political contests.
