Heart-Wrenching Decline: How Biden’s Presidential Pinnacle Melted in a Pool of Pathos
Joseph Biden’s Journey: Triumphs and Tribulations
New York, July 22 (IANS) — Joe Biden’s five-decade career, which began as a local councillor 54 years ago, culminated in his presidency, yet concluded in a cloud of doubt and controversy. At 81, Biden’s extensive political legacy, including 36 years in the Senate, eight as Vice-President, and four as President, faced scrutiny due to concerns about his mental and physical health.
Biden’s 2020 victory over Donald Trump amidst a divisive campaign was disrupted last month when a televised debate performance raised questions about his fitness for re-election. Faced with waning support, Biden chose to exit the presidential race to protect his party’s prospects.
Despite leading the U.S. through the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, helping employment reach historic highs, and boosting the stock market, Biden’s economic policies also spurred significant inflation, complicating his re-election bid. His administration’s hallmark was a $1.6 trillion economic package focused on infrastructure, middle-class jobs, and technological self-sufficiency.
On the foreign policy front, Biden re-engaged globally, opposing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, strengthening NATO, and navigating crises involving Palestine and China. Yet, his domestic and international responses drew mixed reactions, with his handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict particularly divisive.
Biden’s administration faced a complex immigration landscape, initially appearing lenient but eventually adopting stricter measures similar to Trump’s. His foreign policy also sought to counter China through alliances like the Quad and building defense ties with India.
Biden’s personal life was marked by significant tragedies, including the deaths of his first wife and daughter, and later, his son Beau. He also overcame personal health battles and challenges faced by his son Hunter.
Joe Biden’s journey from a stuttering child in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to President of the United States underscores a life of resilience, marked by remarkable achievements and substantial challenges, both personal and political.
