Assam Police’s Stunning Victory: Hidden Weapons Recovered in Chirang as DGP Vows to Eradicate Militancy Remnants
Assam Police Uncover Hidden Weapons in Chirang District
Assam Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in Chirang district, recovering a cache of hidden weapons. Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh announced the news on the microblogging site X, emphasizing the commitment to eradicating the remnants of the region’s militant past.
The weapons were discovered on July 18 during a planned operation targeting the remaining threats from the militant era. This recovery underscores the ongoing efforts by the Assam Police to ensure long-term peace and security in the region.
This recent success follows another notable operation in May 2024, where the Chirang police busted a counterfeit currency racket. During that raid, three individuals were apprehended: Md. Baharul Islam (30), Md. Dulal Ali (44), and Md. Ajijur Rahman (29). They were arrested in Charagaon and Bagargaon, under the jurisdiction of Bijni Police Station in Chirang district.
The May raid uncovered Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs. 18,000, eight bundles of white paper resembling Rs. 500 notes, an FICN printing machine, four mobile phones, A-4 size paper bundles, and a Renault Kwid vehicle registered as AS 01 BX 5504. This operation highlighted the persistent issue of counterfeit currency circulating in the region and prompted the police to ramp up their vigilance and operations.
These successive operations by the Assam Police demonstrate a concerted effort to restore and maintain law and order in Chirang district, dismantling illicit activities and mitigating any residual threats from the militant era. The department’s commitment to uncovering and addressing these threats is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of the residents in the region.
