Stunning Victory: 12 Naxalites Eliminated in Bold Anti-Maoist Operation at Maharashtra-Gadchiroli Border
In Maharashtra, a significant anti-Naxal operation by the C-60 commandos of the Gadchiroli police resulted in the deaths of 12 Naxalites last evening. The encounter took place in the Etapalli block near the Gadchiroli-Chhattisgarh border. The operation unfolded when Naxalites opened fire on police forces conducting a search in the forested area of Vandoli village, Etapalli block. The police retaliated, leading to a protracted six-hour gun battle.
Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police, Nilotpal, confirmed the operation’s outcome, revealing that 12 Naxalites were killed in the clash. The police have intensified search operations in the region following the encounter. Among the recovered items were the bodies of the deceased Naxalites and a cache of weapons, including three AK-47 rifles, two INSAS rifles, one carbine, and one self-loading rifle.
This fierce engagement did result in injuries on the police side, with one sub-inspector and a constable sustaining injuries. Both officers have been transported to Nagpur for medical treatment.
The significance of this encounter was highlighted by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, who noted that this was one of the most considerable Naxal encounters in recent years. In recognition of the bravery displayed by the Gadchiroli police, Fadnavis announced a reward of 51 lakh rupees for the force.
The operation underscores the ongoing challenges and the concerted efforts needed to tackle Naxalite activities in the region. The bravery and swift action of the C-60 commandos have been crucial in this significant achievement against insurgency.
