UP BJP Chief’s Urgent Meeting with PM Modi Amid Explosive Yogi vs Keshav Rift Sparks Tension: Report
Amid speculation of a rift between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, UP BJP chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Their meeting comes amidst ongoing rumors of a significant organizational shake-up in Uttar Pradesh following the BJP’s unexpected defeat in the recent Lok Sabha polls in the state.
In a statement likely reflecting internal party tensions, Maurya had asserted at a recent event that “the organization is always bigger than the government.” This remark was made in the presence of both Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP President JP Nadda. Following this, Chaudhary and Maurya also held discussions with Nadda.
Maurya later reiterated his sentiments on social media, highlighting the importance of the organization over individual roles within the party. This internal discord has prompted the BJP’s central leadership to consider a major restructuring to address these issues and bolster their performance ahead of upcoming assembly by-polls in 10 UP seats.
Amidst this internal turmoil, Maurya responded to criticisms from Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, stating that the BJP remains robust at both state and national levels and predicted their victory in the 2027 UP assembly elections. Yadav had previously commented on the apparent infighting within the BJP, suggesting it was affecting governance in the state.
The BJP’s recent Lok Sabha poll performance saw the party-led NDA winning 36 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, a significant drop from their 2019 tally of 64 seats, with the INDIA alliance, including the SP and Congress, winning 43 seats. This setback is believed to have prevented the BJP from reaching the halfway mark in the Lok Sabha.
The situation within the UP BJP remains dynamic, with the party’s central leadership expected to take decisive action to resolve internal conflicts and prepare for future electoral challenges.
