Mizoram CM Reviews 230-km Sairang-Myanmar Railway Corridor
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met senior railway officials on Tuesday at the Chief Minister’s Office to discuss the proposed railway link connecting Sairang, near Aizawl, with Hmawngbuchhuah in Lawngtlai district along the Myanmar border. The meeting focused on the corridor’s proposed alignment, station locations and operational plans, according to officials.
The proposed Sairang-Hmawngbuchhuah railway corridor is expected to span 230.110 kilometres and include 20 stations. Trains on the route are projected to run at a maximum speed of 130 kilometres per hour. Officials said the project is part of broader efforts to strengthen Mizoram’s railway infrastructure and improve connectivity, particularly in areas close to the international border.
During the discussions, Lalduhoma expressed appreciation to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for prioritising railway development in Mizoram. He said the state government had been offering suggestions to ensure the proposed link delivers maximum benefits to the people of the state.
The Chief Minister also urged railway authorities to ensure that the names of localities and places along the route, including proposed stations, are correctly represented. He highlighted the importance of preserving local names and identities and asked officials to use the correct place names for stations and along the railway route.
The meeting also considered ways to ensure the corridor serves the needs and interests of local communities. Lalduhoma was accompanied by ruling Zoram People’s Movement MLA Clement Lalhmingthanga, General Administration Department Principal Secretary Sudir Kumar, Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister Vanlaldina Fanai, and Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Lalhriatpuia.
