Transforming Lives: Sanofi’s Major Expansion in Hyderabad to Create 1,600 Thriving Job Opportunities by 2026
Sanofi Expands Global Capacity Centre in Hyderabad with €400 Million Investment
Telangana Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu and senior executives from Sanofi inaugurated the new Global Capacity Centre (GCC) office in Hyderabad on Wednesday. This expansion, marking a significant milestone for the French pharmaceutical giant, involves an investment of €400 million (approximately Rs 3,600 crore) over six years and will create 1,600 additional jobs within the next two years.
Hyderabad’s facility, the largest of Sanofi’s four GCCs worldwide—including those in Bogotá, Budapest, and Kuala Lumpur—has grown from a medical hub in 2019 to a multifaceted center supporting Sanofi’s global operations. Executive VP-Business Operations Madeleine Roach noted that the GCC will expand to a 2,600-strong workforce, hiring for diverse roles in research and development, commercial, manufacturing, supply chain, digital, and corporate functions.
Roach emphasized the center’s shift from transactional to transformational work, with digitalization central to Sanofi’s strategy. “This hub will be a catalyst, enabling Sanofi to accelerate efficiency and reinvent how we work,” she stated.
Chief Digital Officer Emmanuel Frenehard highlighted the significant competencies being brought to Hyderabad, traditionally seen in tech companies, encompassing data engineers, data scientists, software engineers, and scrum masters. The ambition is to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI), positioning Sanofi as the first biopharma company to utilize AI at scale, spanning from discovery to treatment. Frenehard stressed the ethical and safe use of AI to expedite drug market entry, addressing unmet needs.
Sanofi plans to invest €100 million of the total €400 million by next year. This expansion underscores Telangana’s growing stature in the global pharmaceutical landscape. Minister D. Sridhar Babu remarked that the development marks a significant advancement for Telangana, showcasing its commitment to innovation and growth in the biotech sector.
