Manipur NSUI Unit Champions Dhanamanjuri University Students’ Brave Hunger Strike, Urges Immediate Regular Staff Appointment
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Manipur unit has expressed its support for the ongoing hunger strike by students of Dhanamanjuri University, which seeks to address the severe staffing shortages at the institution. NSUI representatives have actively joined the protest, which has been relocated from the university’s administration block to the community hall of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai to raise public awareness.
Initially held at the administration block, the protest was moved to draw greater attention to the pressing issues facing Dhanamanjuri University. As the protest gains momentum, an emergency meeting of the Dhanamanjuri University Syndicate has been scheduled. The meeting’s primary agenda is the declaration of recruitment results for various teaching and non-teaching positions. However, despite this development, students are steadfast in their demand that appointment letters for the recruited staff be issued before they cease their strike.
NSUI National Secretary Mohamad Kabi Rahman emphasized the significant hardships endured by DMU students due to the lack of essential staff. He affirmed that the protest would continue until their demands for a regular vice chancellor, registrar, controller of examinations, and other necessary teaching and non-teaching staff are met.
The hunger strike, which commenced on July 9, highlights the urgent need for administrative and educational reforms at Dhanamanjuri University. The students’ persistent demands reflect their desperation for a resolution to the ongoing staffing crisis, which critically hampers the university’s functioning.
