GUWAHATI: A transformer explosion rocked the Birubari area of Guwahati on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in three people being hospitalized at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). The incident occurred near the Birubari police station around 3:30 PM and led to serious burns and injuries among the victims.
Among the injured was 35-year-old Rinki Tiwari, who suffered 25-30 percent electrical burns, predominantly affecting her face. Four-year-old Mira Tiwari sustained 30-40 percent superficial electrical burns, also involving her face. Additionally, 40-year-old Rohit Ali endured 10-15 percent electrical burns with similar facial involvement.
An official from the Fire and Emergency Services Department recounted the events to GPlus, noting, "The explosion came from a transformer. Three people injured are now in the hospital, and we were informed about the incident around 4:15 PM. Locals quickly transported the injured to GMCH."
The explosion has raised concerns about the safety and maintenance of electrical infrastructure in the area. Authorities are likely to investigate the cause of the transformer malfunction to prevent future occurrences.
