Nongpoh Traffic Police Take Bold Action: Comprehensive Inspections of Autorickshaw Taxis Ensuring Safety & Order
Nongpoh, July 17: Traffic Police and NRAODA Crack Down on Autorickshaw Taxis
The traffic police of Nongpoh Police Station, in collaboration with the Nongpoh Region Auto Owners and Drivers Association (NRAODA), Nongpoh Unit, conducted an inspection of autorickshaw taxis on Monday in response to numerous public complaints.
F Lyngdoh, President of NRAODA, expressed frustration over the central leadership’s long-standing inactivity in addressing the welfare of autorickshaw drivers and ensuring passenger safety. According to Lyngdoh, complaints often involve reckless driving, substance abuse, unlicensed and underage drivers, and even kidnapping incidents among autorickshaw operators.
The inspection aims to ensure public safety and improve relations among drivers, not to instigate conflict, Lyngdoh emphasized. Sub-Inspector J.K. Phawa of the Nongpoh traffic police highlighted the dual objective of the crackdown: enforcing adherence to proper licensing and documentation and promoting safety measures like helmet use for two-wheeler riders.
Phawa pointed out that failure to comply with government regulations frequently results in accidents and other unfortunate incidents. During the inspection, numerous autorickshaw drivers were found without proper licenses and documentation, and many two-wheeler riders neglected to wear helmets. The traffic police issued fines to these violators as a preventative measure against future infractions.
The joint effort between Nongpoh traffic police and NRAODA reflects a proactive approach to addressing community concerns and enhancing safety standards in the region.
For residents of Meghalaya, staying informed on such initiatives is crucial for community safety and solidarity.
