Heroic Police Operation in Assam’s Cachar: 3 Suspected Militants Neutralized, AK Rifles Seized in Thrilling Encounter
Three suspected militants were killed during an encounter in Assam’s Cachar district on Wednesday. The incident was confirmed by a senior official at Assam Police Headquarters in Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on social media platform X that the early morning operation resulted in the killing of three Hmar militants from Assam and neighboring Manipur. The police also recovered two AK rifles, one additional rifle, and one pistol from the militants.
According to the PTI report, three police personnel were injured during the operation, although the nature of their injuries has yet to be detailed. They are currently being treated at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The encounter followed the arrest of three militants in East Dholai Ganganagar on Tuesday night. The affiliations of these militants have not been disclosed. The arrests led to the seizure of one AK-47 rifle, one pistol, and other arms from an autorickshaw they were using. The arrested trio was brought by police to the Bhaban Hills area on Wednesday morning in search of additional rebels, which is when the gunfight ensued, lasting over an hour.
The official added that the injured police personnel are receiving medical care at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
This incident comes at a time when the region has seen periodic clashes involving militants from neighboring states. The successful recovery of the firearms has been noted as a significant step toward controlling militant activities in the area.
