
Heartwarming Triumph: South Shillong MLA Champions 76-Year-Old Runner’s International Dream in Meghalaya
South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has generously donated his one-month salary to support 76-year-old long-distance runner Kmoin Wahlang from Meghalaya. Wahlang, a resident of Sngimawlein village in South West Khasi Hills, has been chosen to represent India at the 13th Pan Pacific Masters Games 2024 in Australia, scheduled from November 1-10, 2024.
Recognizing Wahlang’s contributions and achievements in long-distance running across India, Shullai praised her as an inspirational figure for those aspiring to represent Meghalaya and the nation. The MLA’s donation comprises Rs 1 lakh for Wahlang and Rs 30,000 for her coach, Biningstar Lyngkhoi, aimed at bolstering their efforts and preparations for the international event.
Shullai emphasized that this financial support, though modest, is a gesture of encouragement, hoping it would motivate Wahlang to continue her hard work and bring pride to the state and country. During a recent felicitation programme, Shullai expressed unwavering support for Wahlang, acknowledging the significant challenges she faces in competing at such a prestigious level. He conveyed his well-wishes, despite the inability to attend the games in Australia personally, and expressed hope that Wahlang would secure glory for both Meghalaya and India.
