Guwahati: State Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Ashok Singhal, conducted high-level meetings with senior officials from multiple departments to discuss the development of Guwahati. Focus was on expediting the completion of four multi-storey market complexes in Hengerabari, Ganeshguri, Ulubari, and Beltola, with an aim to allocate these markets to small traders within the year.
Key agenda items included municipal reforms, highway lighting, waste and water management, cleanliness initiatives, welfare of sanitation workers, and plans to make Kamakhya a plastic-free zone. Singhal directed the creation of a committee comprising the Secretary of Housing and Urban Affairs, the GMC Commissioner, and the Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner to identify sites for waste disposal.
The minister also reviewed the progress of housing projects for sanitation workers, waste collection management, and the land acquisition status for the Boragaon waste treatment plant. Additional meetings focused on installing street lights along the national highway from Jalukbari to Khanapara, the excavation of Silsako Beel, and the construction of small parks.
Singhal emphasized the need for timely and efficient project completion and collaborative effort among various departments and officials to enhance the city’s infrastructure and living conditions.
