Shooting at Donald Trump Rally: Attacker Positioned on Roof, Witnesses Say
A shocking incident unfolded at a Donald Trump rally when an attacker allegedly fired shots from a rooftop. Witnesses described the dramatic events to the BBC, noting that the attacker had positioned himself before aiming a rifle at the former president.
Greg, a rally attendee, stated he saw the suspect crawling up a building just 50 feet away from the crowd. "The guy crawled up the building 50 feet from us. He had a rifle," Greg informed the BBC. Concerned, he reported the suspicious individual to both police and Secret Service agents. Despite his warnings, Greg expressed frustration over the delayed response. "I’m thinking to myself ‘Why is Trump still speaking, why have they not pulled him off the stage’… the next thing you know, five shots ring out," he recounted.
Following the gunfire, the scene turned chaotic as President Trump was swiftly evacuated from the podium by law enforcement and Secret Service personnel. Greg confirmed witnessing the agency neutralize the assailant, as reported by the BBC. He further explained that police seemed unaware of the unfolding situation, possibly due to the angle of the roof. "We’re pointing at him, the police are down there running around on the ground, we’re like ‘Hey man, there’s a guy on the roof with a rifle’… and the police did not know what was going on," Greg said.
Another witness, Jason, elaborated on the immediate aftermath. He observed the Secret Service’s quick action to shield Trump as the shots were fired. "We see the Secret Service jump on Trump to protect him; everyone on the ground dropped down very quickly.” Minutes after the ordeal, "he stood up and put his fist up in the air," Jason reported.
Authorities are now treating the incident as an attempted assassination, with investigations ongoing, according to the BBC.
