Matinagar Higher Secondary School, once a respected institution in the Kamalasagar Assembly Constituency, is now mired in controversy following allegations of drug presence and administrative neglect.
The scandal erupted when students discovered numerous liquor bottles, including various brands of beer and foreign liquor, strewn across the school premises, even inside classrooms. Shocked residents quickly gathered to witness the alarming scene.
Teachers voiced their frustrations, asserting that the deteriorating conditions have rendered the environment unsuitable for education. One teacher expressed deep regret about joining the school, stating he would have reconsidered had he known the extent of the issues.
Local anger focused on the school management committee, which is accused of neglecting its fundamental responsibilities and allowing the school’s infrastructure to collapse. Classrooms, drinking water facilities, and electricity supply are reportedly in disrepair, while overflowing garbage threatens the students’ health.
Further compounding the scandal, some residents accused members of the school management committee of conspiring with a teacher to sell school property, intensifying local outrage.
In response, residents have appealed directly to the state’s education minister, seeking urgent intervention to address the myriad of issues plaguing Matinagar Higher Secondary School. They question how an effective education can occur in an environment allegedly rife with drug use and neglect, casting a shadow over the school’s future and the well-being of its students.
