Barpeta’s Heartfelt Durga Puja: Essential Guidelines Issued for a Joyous and Safe Celebration in Assam
The Barpeta district administration in Assam has issued comprehensive directives for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations to ensure safety and order. Announced on Tuesday and presided over by District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, the guidelines emphasize the need for permissions, strict crowd management, hygiene protocols, and enhanced security measures.
Puja committees must secure official permissions by October 7, 2024, and adhere to a 10 p.m. deadline for loudspeaker use to comply with noise pollution guidelines. The administration mandates the appointment of one volunteer per every 50 attendees, each subject to police verification to ensure accountability and safety.
Hygiene is also a priority, with committees required to install dustbins and perform bi-daily cleaning of the premises. Additionally, CCTV cameras must be installed at puja sites to monitor and deter any criminal activity.
Further measures include keeping the idols under strict surveillance post-ceremonies and a zero-tolerance policy towards gambling and other illegal activities. To support these initiatives, the state government will provide a Rs 10,000 grant to each organizing committee, contingent upon the submission of bank details by October 26.
Collaboration between Puja committees and local authorities, especially the police, is emphasized to swiftly address any security concerns. These directives aim to maintain communal harmony and ensure a joyful and united celebration.
The district administration’s detailed plans underscore the cultural importance of Durga Puja while prioritizing public safety and environmental responsibility. This well-rounded approach seeks to facilitate a secure and enjoyable festival for all communities involved.
