Inside Delhi’s Winter Action Plan: Transformative Anti-Dust Campaign and Drone Monitoring Unleashed From Oct 7
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai unveiled the "Winter Action Plan" on Wednesday to combat air pollution in the capital. The theme for this year’s plan is "Milkar Chalein aur Pradushan se Ladein." Rai detailed that a comprehensive 21-point strategy has been formulated for this purpose.
Key Highlights of the Winter Action Plan:
Innovative Drone Monitoring: For the first time, Delhi will employ drone monitoring to identify pollution hotspots in real-time.
Firecracker Ban: A blanket ban on all firecrackers will be imposed once a formal notification is issued, effective until January 1.
Special Task Force Formation: A six-member Special Task Force will be established to identify and curb pollution sources.
Anti-Dust Campaign: Launching on October 7, the campaign mandates all private and government agencies to adhere to specified anti-dust measures by this date, with strict actions against non-compliance.
Construction Site Registration: Construction sites over 500 meters must register on a designated portal.
Enhanced Cleaning Measures: The deployment of 85 road-sweeping machines and 500 water-sprinkling machines aims to maintain cleaner streets.
Deployment of Anti-Smog Guns: 200 mobile anti-smog guns will be rolled out across the city.
Increased Water Sprinkling: Water sprinkling efforts will be tripled during November and December to mitigate pollution levels.
Delhi’s proactive and multifaceted approach underscores its commitment to tackling the severe air quality issues that plague the city each winter. The coordinated efforts of real-time monitoring, strict enforcement of regulations, and specialized task forces highlight a robust strategy aimed at safeguarding public health and the environment.
