Transforming Lives: Swachhta Hi Seva Activities Spark Joy and Cleanliness in SWGH, EJH
Meghalaya Districts Engage in Nationwide Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign
TURA/KHLIEHRIAT, Sep 24: As part of the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, South West Garo Hills (SWGH) and East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya have recently engaged in various activities to promote cleanliness, environmental consciousness, and civic responsibility.
In South West Garo Hills, the district administration, along with the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), hosted a Sales Day at the DC Office Complex in Ampati, aiming to promote hygiene and cleanliness. The event featured live music performances, sponsored by MGMP, enhancing the atmosphere. Post celebration, district officials and staff conducted a cleaning drive to maintain the cleanliness of the DC Office Complex. During the Swachhta Hi Seva fortnight, the district also held essay writing competitions across its blocks to encourage students to think critically about sanitation and environmental responsibility.
Meanwhile, East Jaintia Hills hosted a tree plantation drive-cum-awareness programme on Waste Recovery at Latyrke Community Hall. Organized by the District Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), the event saw attendance from Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla, who served as the chief guest, alongside other dignitaries and local government officials. Shylla and Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi inaugurated a Waste Recovery Centre and an additional classroom at Latyrke Secondary School, both projects completed with the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) fund.
During her address, Shylla lauded the community’s collective efforts and stressed the significance of waste management and tree plantation in combating global warming. She urged the community to actively engage in environmental conservation. Other prominent speakers included East Jaintia Hills DC, District WASH Coordinator Embhah Rymbai, and Jal Shakti Fellow Patricia Law, all of whom highlighted the critical role of environmental responsibility.
Both districts’ enthusiastic participation in Swachhta Hi Seva underscores Meghalaya’s commitment to cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental sustainability.
