Kim Strongly Denies Alarming Claim of 900 Kuki Militants Infiltrating Manipur | Guwahati News
Kuki Group Refutes Allegations of Militant Infiltration in Manipur
Guwahati: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), representing the Kuki tribes, vehemently denied claims by the Manipur government that 900 Kuki militants had infiltrated the state from Myanmar. Manipur’s security adviser, Kuldiep Singh, had alleged that these militants were planning coordinated attacks on Meitei villages around September 28. In a rebuttal, KIM accused Meitei militants of entering the Manipur valley with government support.
Moreover, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) questioned the feasibility of such infiltration given the deployment of 60,000 central security personnel and an additional 35,000 state forces in Manipur. COCOMI called on the state government to find and disarm these alleged militants. Kiran Moirangcha, COCOMI’s spokesperson, emphasized that "outside terrorists entering India is a national and state security threat."
KIM further accused "Valley-Based Insurgent Groups" (VBIGs) and the Meitei State Police of collaborating against the Kuki-Zo people, with alleged support from groups like Arambai Tenggol and other radicalized Meitei factions. They argued that the state’s accusations against Kuki militants were fabricated to serve the political interests of maintaining certain security roles.
In response, the Meitei Heritage Society refuted KIM’s claims, suggesting instead that evidence points to Kuki militants with ties to foreign entities, specifically citing Zomi Revolution Army president Thianglianpao Guite’s connections to Myanmar. The society accused Kuki militants of engaging in drone bombings targeting Meitei civilians.
The tension in Manipur is not new, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah previously addressed the ethnic strife, linking it to influx issues from Myanmar. Shah highlighted initiatives such as border fencing, ending the free movement regime with Myanmar, and deploying additional CRPF teams to address the instability.
This complex situation calls for a political solution to prevent further misuse of democratic institutions and safeguard human rights within the region.
