Veteran CPI(M) Leader M.M. Lawrence Passes Away at 95
Kochi, Kerala: M.M. Lawrence, a prominent CPI(M) leader and trade unionist, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the age of 95. Lawrence had been suffering from age-related health issues for some time.
A key figure in Kerala’s political landscape, Lawrence served as the convenor of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and was a member of the CPI(M) central committee. Dedicated to workers’ rights, he played a pivotal role in unifying and advocating for laborers in both organized and unorganized sectors. Notably, he was one of the earliest activists in Kerala to work towards organizing the State’s manual scavengers.
Lawrence’s political journey began in his youth, marked by his arrest for attacking the Edapally police station.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed his condolences on Lawrence’s demise, reflecting on his substantial contributions to the State’s labor movement and political scene.
