Breaking News: Atishi Appointed as New Chief Minister of Delhi – A Transformative Leadership Era Begins!
Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, following a unanimous decision by the party on September 17, 2024. Arvind Kejriwal proposed her name as his successor, which was subsequently endorsed by all the AAP MLAs. Currently serving as a Cabinet Minister in the Delhi Government, Atishi oversees significant portfolios such as Education, Public Works Department (PWD), and Power. Representing Kalkaji constituency, she has been an active party member since 2013. Atishi will now be the third woman to hold the Chief Minister position in Delhi, after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
Arvind Kejriwal is set to meet Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday to formally resign, paving the way for Atishi’s appointment. Preceding this, AAP legislators will convene at 11:30 a.m. to finalize the decision. The move comes after Kejriwal, recently released on bail by the Supreme Court following nearly six months in jail due to the Delhi liquor policy case, announced his intention to step down on Sunday, September 15, 2024. He called for early Assembly elections to let Delhi voters decide on the AAP government’s integrity. Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister and also implicated in the same case, echoed Kejriwal’s sentiment, stating both leaders will appeal to the public’s verdict on their honesty in the forthcoming polls.
