A 37-year-old man from Jagun in Tinsukia, identified as Deepak Limbu, passed away from Japanese encephalitis on July 14. Limbu had been experiencing fever for about eight days before his family took him to Sanjivani Diagnostic & Hospital, a private nursing facility in Dibrugarh, on July 8. Despite receiving treatment, he succumbed to the disease nearly six days later.

The death of Deepak Limbu has profoundly impacted the Jagun community. The region is already contending with severe floods, further complicating the public health situation. While the health department has been making efforts to meet community health needs during the flooding, there is a notable lack of local awareness and proactive measures, which is raising concerns among residents.

This incident underscores the dual challenges of dealing with natural disasters and infectious diseases in the region, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated efforts between public health officials and the community to prevent further tragedies.
