Jalsa on the Alert: Amitabh Bachchan’s Juhu Bungalow Named in Bomb Threat Email
Mumbai’s glamour often shares its frame with unease, and this week the two collided outside Jalsa. Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic Juhu residence was among several prominent locations named in a bomb threat email received by the authorities, sending security agencies into immediate action. According to reports, the email reportedly mentioned the Bombay High Court, the Bombay Stock Exchange, Mahalaxmi Racecourse and Bachchan’s Jalsa. The city’s security machinery, already on edge, moved swiftly.
Following the alert, security personnel initiated searches at the identified premises. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads carried out thorough inspections, and police officials confirmed that nothing suspicious was found. Relief, it must be said, arrived in the nick of time. But the episode has left Mumbai’s entertainment corridors discussing more than just cinema.
This is not the first time Jalsa has appeared in such a threat. On Friday, October 23, the Mumbai mayor’s office reportedly received a similar email naming the actor’s Juhu residence, the mayor’s office and Mahalaxmi Racecourse. The racecourse is also scheduled to host singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s performance on November 27, adding another layer of security concern to an already sensitive calendar.
The Bachchan household, predictably, has not taken the warnings lightly. After the earlier alert, security outside Jalsa was strengthened on October 25, when Bachchan continued his customary Sunday meeting with fans. On November 1, he maintained the tradition, but with additional precautions: he greeted admirers from behind a transparent bulletproof enclosure, accompanied by son Abhishek Bachchan, while security personnel closely monitored the gathering. The image alone says what words cannot-star worship in Mumbai now comes with a shield.
The latest threat arrives amid heightened attention on the safety of Bollywood personalities. Earlier this month, a firing incident in Juhu sharpened those worries. On October 18, two men opened fire at Tiger Shroff’s car near a football ground in Juhu. The actor escaped unharmed, but his driver and another person were reportedly injured. Three suspects were later arrested in Kota, Rajasthan, and handed over to the Mumbai Police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Bachchan recently shared an update about his health and recovery. In a post on his Tumblr blog, the veteran star indicated that he needed more rest. “Yet more rest needed .. adjusting .. thinking and wondering .. the human body and its uniqueness,” he wrote.
For Mumbai, the story is a sobering reminder that even the most celebrated addresses are not insulated from the city’s anxieties. For Bollywood, it is another chapter in the growing conversation around security, stardom and the uneasy space between the two. Jalsa may have emerged from this alert unscathed, but the spotlight outside its gates is unlikely to dim anytime soon.
