Final Tributes Paid to Biman Bihari Dhar in Heartfelt Farewell
Agartala, October 23, 2026: Veteran journalist and author Biman Bihari Dhar, who died alongside his grandson in a road accident earlier this week, was paid his final respects at the Agartala Press Club on Friday, as Tripura’s journalistic and literary communities came together to mourn the loss of one of their most respected figures.
Senior journalist and Syandan editor Subal Kumar Dey, ICA Department Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, and several other prominent personalities attended the tribute ceremony at the Press Club, where they laid floral tributes in honour of the departed journalist and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
Following the memorial gathering, Dhar’s mortal remains were taken to Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, where leading writers, litterateurs and other eminent personalities from across the state assembled to pay their last respects to the veteran scribe.
The double tragedy struck on Thursday morning, when a bus collided with the Maruti car in which Dhar and his grandson, Rahul Pal, were travelling. The fatal crash occurred on the national highway near No. 2 Karaiyamura School, coming under the jurisdiction of the Bagma police outpost. Both Dhar and his grandson lost their lives in the collision.
The sudden and untimely deaths of the veteran journalist and his young grandson have left the family devastated, while news of the accident has sent shockwaves through the state. Dhar’s passing has cast a shadow of deep mourning over Tripura’s journalistic and literary circles, where he was known and admired for his long-standing work as both a reporter and an author. Colleagues, fellow writers and admirers gathered through the day to bid farewell to a figure whose absence is being keenly felt across the state’s media and cultural fraternity.
