Guwahati: Drunk Youths on Two-Wheeler Injure Pedestrian in Silpukhuri
A pedestrian sustained serious injuries on Wednesday, October 21, after a two-wheeler allegedly carrying three intoxicated youths rammed into him near Paradise Hotel in Guwahati’s Silpukhuri area. All three riders were also hurt in the collision, which took place amid Vijaya Dashami celebrations in the city.
According to preliminary information, the pedestrian was crossing the road when the two-wheeler struck him. The impact left the victim badly injured and also caused damage to the vehicle.
Local residents rushed to the spot following the crash and helped shift the injured to a hospital for treatment. Their identities and the extent of their injuries were not immediately known. It also remained unclear whether the police had registered a case in connection with the incident.
The accident occurred at a time when Durga idol immersions were under way at designated ghats across Guwahati. Authorities had imposed traffic restrictions on several roads to regulate the movement of immersion processions and other vehicles through the city.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over road safety during festive occasions, when increased traffic movement and late-evening celebrations add to the risk of accidents. Riding under the influence of alcohol poses a serious threat not only to pedestrians but to all road users, and the Silpukhuri crash serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that drunk driving can pose during large public celebrations.
