New Delhi, September 13, 2024 (IANS): Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Prison on Friday after the Supreme Court granted him conditional bail in the Delhi excise policy case. Emerging from the jail, Kejriwal was welcomed by a throng of enthusiastic AAP workers and leaders chanting patriotic slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’.
In an impassioned address, Kejriwal asserted that his stint in jail has only strengthened his resolve to serve the nation and fight anti-India forces with renewed vigor. He criticized the central government, stating that their attempts to imprison him would not weaken his determination.
Despite the celebratory mood surrounding his release, Kejriwal’s political and administrative powers have been notably restricted. The Supreme Court’s bail conditions prohibit him from visiting the Secretariat or signing official files, except when required for clearance/approval from the Lieutenant Governor. Furthermore, he is barred from commenting on the merits of the case and must refrain from interacting with witnesses or accessing any related official documents. He is also required to provide a surety of Rs 10 lakh.
AAP workers and leaders had gathered outside Tihar Jail since the evening to offer a rousing reception to their leader. While Kejriwal has secured a temporary reprieve, the limitations imposed on him are significant and may impact his administrative functions in the immediate future.
Kejriwal’s release marks a critical moment in his ongoing legal battle, as he vows to continue his political mission with increased determination and vigor.
