Lakhipur Tea Garden Communities Receive Rs 4.5 Cr Boost
Twelve Naachghars and Four Durga Puja Mandaps Inaugurated Across Lakhipur
In a significant development, twelve Naachghars and four Durga Puja mandaps have been inaugurated across tea garden areas of Lakhipur constituency over the past three days. These dedicated spaces will serve as hubs for cultural activities and religious celebrations, particularly during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.
Cabinet Minister and Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai expressed his satisfaction at fulfilling his promise to the people. Speaking to The Assam Tribune, he said, “I had assured the community that these Naachghars and Durga mandaps would be functional in time for Durga Puja and other community occasions. I am delighted that we have kept our word.”
The projects, constructed under the Barak Valley Development Department at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore, were inaugurated by Rai on Friday. He opened a newly constructed Durga Puja mandap at Kalabil Bagan under Labak Gaon Panchayat and three Naachghars at Jirighat, Lakhipur, and Nandan Kanan tea gardens.
Naachghars are expected to serve as venues for cultural performances, social gatherings, and traditional activities, playing a crucial role in sustaining collective cultural practices in tea garden communities. These facilities also aim to promote folk art and Jhumur dance, providing local artists with platforms to showcase their talent and helping preserve the unique cultural traditions of tea garden residents.
Rai highlighted that the Durga Puja mandaps will provide dedicated spaces for religious observances and community celebrations, while the Naachghars will contribute to the social and cultural life of the tea garden areas. He reiterated his commitment to strengthening community development and preserving the cultural heritage of tea garden residents.
