India Aims for Glory: High-Stakes Showdown Against Arch-Rivals Pakistan in Asian Champions Trophy Hockey
India and Pakistan are set to clash in their next round-robin match of the Hero Asian Champions Trophy on September 14. With India having already secured a semifinal spot, they aim to extend their winning streak and maintain their dominance over Pakistan, leading the points table with four consecutive victories.
India’s impressive campaign includes victories over China (3-0), Japan (5-1), Malaysia (8-1), and Korea (3-1). In contrast, Pakistan has shown resilience under the leadership of legendary forward Tahir Zaman. They drew 2-2 with Malaysia and Korea before defeating Japan (2-1) and China (5-1), securing the second spot.
Historically, India holds an advantage over Pakistan. At last year’s Hangzhou Asian Games, India triumphed 10-2. In their most recent ACT encounter in Chennai, India won 4-0. During the 2022 Asia Cup in Jakarta, a younger Indian squad managed a 1-1 draw with Pakistan, and at the 2021 ACT in Dhaka, India won 4-3 to clinch the bronze medal.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh, recognized as one of the world’s best drag-flickers, is in top form and looks forward to rekindling the rivalry with Pakistan. On the other hand, Pakistan’s skipper Butt is confident about the upcoming contest, noting his team’s improvements game-by-game.
The stage is set for another thrilling encounter between these two hockey giants, promising a high-stakes match filled with fierce competition and national pride.
