Outraged Manipur: CoTU Condemns Heinous CRPF Attack, Demands Sovereign Administration
The Committee on Tribal Unity, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi, has vehemently condemned a recent attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel stationed at Laimatong Thangbuh. The incident, which occurred on September 8 between 5 and 6 pm, was characterized by the committee as a “well-choreographed” and “strategic” assault.
In their statement, the committee criticized the perceived rise of separatist ideologies within the Meitei community. They pointed to the promotion of the concept of ‘Kangleipak’, an independent kingdom, and the ‘Sana-Mahi’ ideology as signs of increasing secessionist tendencies, which they believe contribute to hostility against India’s armed forces.
In contrast, the committee lauded the Kuki-Zo community for their contributions to nation-building. They highlighted the community’s historical resistance against British colonial forces from 1917 to 1919 and their sacrifices alongside Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose during India’s freedom struggle as noteworthy examples of their patriotism.
Amidst rising tensions, the Committee on Tribal Unity has urged the Union Home Ministry to investigate the circumstances surrounding this conflict, emphasizing the need for a separate administration for the minority Kuki-Zo community to address national security concerns.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Police have initiated a suo motu case against valley-based armed miscreants responsible for the September 8 attack on the CRPF camp.
Also of note, the United Naga Council has issued a 15-day ultimatum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding a district creation controversy, indicating broader regional unrest.
This series of developments underscores the escalating ethnic tensions and security challenges in Manipur, necessitating urgent attention from the central government.
