Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday inaugurated the ‘bow-string’ arch bridge linking the Coastal Road to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, significantly reducing travel time from nearly an hour to just 10 minutes. This infrastructure development aims to enhance the overall commuting experience. With an estimated cost of ₹14,000 crore, the Coastal Road will now offer a direct connection to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
During the inauguration, Shinde highlighted the project’s impact, emphasizing its role in transforming the commute from Marine Drive to Bandra into a mere 10-minute journey. “This is a very comfortable and relaxing project for the people, a very ambitious and game-changing project for the people of Mumbai,” he stated. Previously congested with bumper-to-bumper traffic, the route is now designed for faster travel, which will save time, fuel, and reduce pollution. The bridge will provide northbound vehicles heading to Bandra from South Mumbai with direct sea link access between 7 am and 11 pm, while southbound traffic will follow the existing route until full connectivity is achieved.
Shinde also reiterated his commitment to improving city infrastructure, promising that Mumbai will have pothole-free concrete roads within the next two years. “In the next two years, the whole of Mumbai will have completely concrete roads, there will not be a single pothole, and Mumbai will be completely pothole-free,” he assured.
The early inauguration of the bridge, initially slated for September 15, underscores the administration’s dedication to timely project completion. This development is expected to significantly enhance the daily commuting experience for Mumbai’s residents and marks a major step towards the city’s broader beautification and infrastructure improvement efforts.
This bridge inauguration comes ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, signaling a major infrastructure milestone for the state.
