Monastir: Top Seed Mertens Advances, Podoroska and Cristian Upset in First Round
In Monastir, Tunisia, top-seeded Elise Mertens delivered a dominating performance in the first round of the Jasmin Open Tunisia. The Belgian, ranked No. 32 in the world, cruised past Russia’s Anastasia Zakharova with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. At the WTA 500 Guadalajara Open in Mexico, Italy’s Martina Trevisan upset eighth-seeded Caroline Dolehide of the United States with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 triumph. Trevisan converted six of her 13 break point opportunities while effectively saving two break points on her own serve.
